What is Girl Scouts Cool the Community?

Cool the Earth and Girl Scouts Northern CA have come together to bring climate change action to everyone in the community. “Cool the Community”, a program developed by Cool the Earth for Girl Scouts (K-5), is a “cool” troop service project which makes combating climate change fun and easy. The four-meeting program motivates Scouts to save energy at home and gives them the tools to become leaders in their community, as they inspire others to take action in the fight against global warming.

Program elements include:

• A fun, interactive story explaining the concepts of global warming
• Creative art projects teaching about carbon footprints
• Community outreach with energy-saving Action Coupon booklets
• Scout recognition with Cool the Earth trading cards and climate change patch

Cool the Community – Create Environmental Leaders

In just four meetings, Girl Scouts learn about climate change and take action in their community, which adds up to make a difference!

• Meeting 1: Learn about Global Warming with the lively “Golden Coupon” Fable! Then take action at home to reduce your carbon emissions!
• Meeting 2: Calculate your carbon footprint and jump into taking action, by motivating others in your community to conserve energy with you!
• Meeting 3: Take part in a fun footprint art project; then strategize about reaching more friends and neighbors with action coupons!
• Meeting 4: Celebrate your results and create a "success" poster.
